Current Walmart Deals!

Here are the current Walmart deals. Note though that each Walmart may decide to do their sales a bit differently across the country. I haven't been to the Lafayette Walmarts yet, so I can't vouch that all these deals are there...so just a little fyi!

Check out the deal on Progressive Soups!! I had only seen them 4/$5 (1.25 each), but here at Walmart they are on-sale for 3/$2 (0.67 each!). So they are free with the $1.10 coupon, with $0.47 overage! Also Honey Bunches of Oats are free with overage too!!

Here is the link to "Cent"sible Sawyer's blog, which has the deals posted! Enjoy!

You think this is easy?

I agree with Mark Z. that I wish I could dance like Turk on Scrubs, but I lack one thing that most white guys lack...rhythm. But it is still fun to watch and say, "Man, I wish I could do that!"

Here is a short clip of the dance Turk does to the song "Poison", which is right after Todd's horrible try-out for the air band! I hope you enjoy.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving all!

I am sitting here watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with Amee. Later on we are going to my sister's house to eat our yearly fix of turkey, stuffing, and my mom's favorite noodle! We can't wait! Amee baked a pumpkin pie and also cooking a sweet potatoe dish later on this morning! We are very thankful for a lot of things, but the one thing we are especially thankful is Jesus Christ, and the forgiveness that comes through His shed blood on the cross! To God be the Glory!

A Farewell to "Lakewood"

For all you that may not know "Lakewood" (aka John Fegy), he is the guy who really helped me out in my planning of my Appalachian Trail Hike. He actually thru-hiked it in 2007 and put up some very informative videos of his hike. By the grace of God, he decided to return my email asking for any advice that would help in my pursuit to hike the AT in 2008. His advice and encouragement throughout my AT hike really helped me get to Harper's Ferry. Even though we still haven't met in person, I consider him a real good friend. Lord willing, someday we will get to hangout and trade somemore stories of the AT, and maybe even do some hiking on the AT! Who knows...

You maybe wondering why I am spot-lighting him, but he is actually heading off to Antartica to do some geology research and is leaving on Thanksgiving (of all days!). Have a great time "Lakewood" and don't forget to blog about it! Will be praying for you!

Finally, John is also a very talented musician, and I wanted to put up a couple of videos that actually turned me on to a couple artists (Derrick Webb & Damien Rice) that I had never heard before. You can find his "bathroom series" on You Tube. I hope you enjoy!

You just might get to Rock!

Well as you may or may not know, Rock Band 2 has the song "More than a Feeling" which is usually a fan favorite to play, since most people have heard of that song!

Well everytime I hear it, I cannot help of thinking of the Scrub episode on "Air Banding" in which Turk and his band sings and air bands that very song! Turk is awesome! This episode is a classic, and it even has a better scene with Turk...but that is another post!

Dog lover!

Amee and I are dog lovers by heart. We don't have anything against cats, but we prefer the friendly, never-ending affection that only dogs gives!

Well, I came across an opportunity to get a free sample of this dog shampoo the other day, and since we sometimes give Reggie (the neighborhood beagle) a bath...I decided to have them send us some.

Well at their website, they had this amusing picture of this dog, which I am sure is photoshopped, but still pretty dog gone funny!

Public Chess Enemy #1

Well about a week ago, I finally hit a small milestone. My game with Public Chess Enemy #1 - Lee Morrison ended up in a draw! It wasn't an official win, but actually tying a guy with a chess rating in the 1700's...I was very happy! I am getting even closer to that 1st victory!

Christ isn't ashamed to call us brothers!

I have been going through a study in Hebrews, and am starting the application part of Chapter 13, which the first verse talks about that we should continue to love the brethern (fellow believers in Christ)!

The pastor directed us back to Hebrews chpt 2 and talked about verses 9-13, in which it talks about.... that Christ isn't ashamed to call us brothers.

Have you ever had a family member, or had one of your kids do something embarrasing in a public place to cause you to be ashamed to be associated with them? I know I have, but just think of all the times you have messed up and Christ is still wanting to call us brothers! What an amazing love to be modeled, eh!

It is interesting also that before the cross of Christ, that Christ called His followers His disciples, sheep or friends...but never His brethern. It wasn't till after the sin payment was paid for, and we were sanctified by the shed blood of Christ that He was able to call us His brother!

Note John 20:17, Jesus when He returned from the grave and made Himself known to Mary, He told her to go to My brethern and say to them, "I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God."

I never noticed that before and thought I would share it with you all! What an awesome God we serve!

Country Bob's sauce!

Howdy all!

I came across this freebie by chance, and I noticed that he put on his webpage that Christ is our C.E.O. Then I went to about Country Bob tab and found a tab to tell more about Bob's CEO, and low and behold he has put up what he believes in...and the gospel message! How cool!

I think that this is the first business that I had seen do this on their webpage. So, I decided to go ahead and get the coupon to get a free bottle of his sauce, which they do sell here in Lafayette at Payless and Walmart! Now, time for some ribs!

Peter Schiff was right on!

Watching this video reminds me of the story of Noah in the Old Testimony. Noah kept trying warn people of the upcoming judgement, but everyone kept laughing at him and saying he was out of his mind.

As you can see, these "so-called" economic experts were making fun of Peter, but if you took all of their "advice"...you would be broke! Hmmm....

If you dont know who Peter Schiff is...he is Ron Paul's economic advisor, and the both of them are students of the Austrian Free Market system, which has predicted these events and events in the past...including the Great Depression. His website is here.

Here is a quick rundown on the predictions of the people mocking Schiff in the video to save anyone else that might look up the current prices some time.

1. DOW to 16,000 within a year, almost a year later it’s currently 8,358.64.

2. Merril Lynch - 76.04 at the time. Currently worth around $14 a share. Good call Ben Stein!

3. Goldman Sachs – 175 at the time. Currently worth around $68 a share. Another huge loser.

4. Buy Washington Mutual at $13.07 As of last close on Nov 12 2008, Washington Mutual Inc closed at 0.063

My CVS experience!

Hello again,

Sunday after church while I was waiting for Amee to get home, I went to CVS and got some goods! Now CVS is another interesting place. This is not a place I would of normally buy goods, cause once again of the price match at Walmart, but their Extra Care Bucks deals can't be beat.

That is...if you learn the system and have some patience! Shopping at CVS is still a learning experience, but I have been glad I have tried it! Lord willing, I won't have to buy toiletries again. They basically give away shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soaps, mouthwash, ect...

The basic premise for CVS shopping is their ECB's (extra care bucks). So, each week and month they have it where you buy brand x shampoo for $4 and get $4 extra care bucks back to use next time, which means that it was free. It is kind of confusing, so I will post a link to where it is explained in much more detail. Here is the link: http://www.moneysavingmom.com/money_saving_mom/2008/03/cvs-101.html

Here is what I bought: I bought $23.92 worth of retail items for $5.36 and I recieved $12 in ECB's to use next time! Here is the breakdown...

2 - St. Ives body wash ($3.99 each) - had 2 - $2 coupons and it earned me $6 in ECB's ($3 each)
1 - Garnier's Fructis shampoo ($2.99) - Earned me $2 in ECB's
1 - Garnier's Fructis shampoo ($2.99) - Earned me $2 in ECB's
2- Palmolive dish soap ($1.49 each) - Earned me total of $2 ECB's ($1 each)
1- Purell Hand Sanitizer ($3.99) - Earned me $2 in ECB's
1 - Gallon of Dean's Milk ($2.99)
Total: 24.33

I also had a $5 dollar saving coupon as well as $4 worth of St. Ive's coupons. Which brought the total to: $15.33

Then I had a $3 ECB and a $6.98 ECB from a previous visit, which brough the total to the final price of: $5.36

Also, I got $12 worth of ECB's (which is $2 more than I had last week) to use for my next visit!

Here is the link for the $2 coupon for St. Ives body wash: http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=ri1ucbm7222148&bt=wi&o=53946&c=SI&p=opiNjXce

My Kroger Experience

Hello all,

It is stewardship month here at Faith Baptist Church, so it is a great time to reflect on all that God has entrusted us with, and it is our job to increase it for God's glory! Cause He can call us into account at anytime!

So, lately I have been trying to figure out ways to decrease how much we spend each month on groceries, which is a big part of our monthly budget. I have been reading some blogs that deal with being frugal and smart shopping with coupons and in-store deals.

This is an account of my first Kroger experience. I have never really shopped at Kroger (or Pay-Less), because we can get price match at Walmart, but I found a blog that explained their in-store grand event. It is buy $10/$10 items and get $5 savings, although with the addition of coupons....this can be pretty fun (as I experienced). Lord willing, I will get better at this, because I am still very green at this shopping with coupon thing.

Ok, here is a summery of my 1st trip to Kroger: I bought $37.06 in retail price items for only $1.46! (Yes, that is correct...actually the total was $0.76 and the tax $0.70)

Here is what I bought:
10 - Scrub Sponges ($2.49) on-sale for $1 each. Had 10 -$1.00 coupon...basically free
These items also accounted for the 10/10 Mega Event...which also gave me $5 free
4 - Cans of Carnation Evaporated Milk ($1.35) on-sale for $1. Had a buy 2/$1 off coupon x 2
4 - Cans of Libby's pumpkin puree ($1.69) on-sale for $1.44. Had a buy 2/$1 off coupon x 2

All these coupons I found online and just printed off my computer. So, in all I saved $35.60!

Ok, here is a summery of my 2nd trip to Kroger (since I took all the last scrubing sponges!)
I bought $31.38 in retail price items for only $1.20! (total$0.50 and tax was $0.70)

Here is what I bought:
6 - Scrub Sponges ($1.99 each) on-sale for $1 each. Had 6 - $1 coupons (not sure why $1.99)
4 - Scrub Sponges ($2.49 each) on-sale for $1 each. Had 4 - $1 coupons...so basically still free.
again, I just printed off the $1 coupons and used them for the 10/10 mega event ($5 free)
2 - pints of Dove Ice Cream ($3.99 each) on-sale for $2.
2 - Half gallon Milk - manager's special at $0.75 each (expiration date coming up soon)
This time I saved $30.18! Now, I could go and do this a 3rd time (which BTW is the limit) until Wednesday...which I just may do! I can just give away the sponges to my friends and co-workers!

So, if you are adding it up....$68.42 in groceries for only $2.66 (and $1.4o of it was tax!) Unreal!

To God be the glory! (stay tuned for my CVS experience)
Shepherd

p.s. here is the links for the coupons. When I sign up...I have another email account dedicated for unwanted ads, so to not bombard my primary email account! Also, below is a picture of the goods bought (i didn't put all my sponges in cause I gave some to Dana as well as a pint of ice cream!)

The Bonfire.jpg

The Bonfire.jpg, originally uploaded by Hikingfool.

Tonight is the career class annual bonfire at the Grays' house. It was calling for rain and possible snow. It did rain at the beginning, which caused us to eat indoors, but after awhile the sky cleared and the fire was lit.

The weather is cool and crisp, just right for the bonfire. We have quite the turn out. We have Eddie on the guitar and Jeff doing the ever famous hayrides around his property! It is something to experience!

Earlier Chris (Mr. NRA) had his guns out to shoot, like an AK-47, 12 guage shotgun, and numerous handguns. Very fun, and no one got hurt!

Well time to sing I'll fly away and some more praise & worship songs. God bless.

Gas Prices and Free Stuff!

Well today was a nice day in that I found gas for $1.94, which is the cheapest I have paid for a long time! It was nice to actually only pay $22.50 to fill up my tank instead of 45-50 bucks!! So, that was a nice blessing in this economic downturn. What's the lowest you have paid so far?

Also, who doesn't like free stuff? I found a site that told about Walgreens' Photo Shop is giving away a free 8x10 picture, w hich is a $3 value! All you have to do is go to http://www.walgreens.com/ and go to the photo link and then upload your photo of choice. Then go to the checkout and select a 8x10 and type in FREEPIC for coupon code and volia...a free pic. Then choose which Walgreens you want to pick it up at and there you go! This offer is only good till 11/8 - which is today - so hurry up! I would assume since you do it online it will be good till midnight.

My free 8x10 was of me on the AT at McAfee Knob!

Peace,
Shepherd.

Cabbage Soup Recipe

I also love to cook on occasion, which is a good skill to learn, men, in case your wife isn't there everyday. You can only eat out so much! So this is a recipe that I found on startcooking.com, a blog that I read frequently. I love cabbage, and I love soup...so you can't beat putting them together! Here is the recipe, enjoy!

Cabbage Soup
1 medium onion - chopped
1 stalk of celery - diced
1 medium carrot - diced
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 pound of dry yellow split peas
6 cups of chicken stock
2 cups of water
2 pounds of sauerkraut
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper

Sort and rinse the dry yellow split peas. Heat oil in a large (6 quart) pot until it shimmers. Add the chopped onion, diced celery and carrots. Sauté the vegetables until they are soft, about 5 minutes.

Add the split peas and the chicken (or vegetable) broth. Bring the soup to a boil and then turn down the temperature to simmer. Simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. You may need to add up to 2 cups of water if the soup gets too thick.

Rinse the sauerkraut under cold running water. Add it to the soup pot and continue cooking the soup until it is heated though.

Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Commen Sense: Revisted!

In today's times, we may just have to go back to some "Commen Sense." Here is a copy of Thomas Paine's famous pamhlet that led to the Revolutionary War! It describes how our gov't should be! My gov't and political posts should be coming to an end very soon, and I will get back to more light-hearted posts...I hope!

Thomas Jefferson Revisted

Thomas Jefferson warned about big govenment some 200 plus years ago...

“A government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have…The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases.”

Thomas Jefferson

Barack Obama: The 44th President of the United States.

Well I guess congratulations are in order for the new President of the United States: Barack Obama! It is a historic night, as we finally celebrate our first black president! I will continue to pray for the direction of our country, and that God would have mercy on us!

Also, here is a nice link to the election map that is very detailed. Also, just click on your state for more indept voting information! Here are some interesting tidbits I found:

1. Tippecanoe was 1 of 15 counties that went democratic in Indiana, with the following stats....
55.3% Obama
47.3% McCain
1.0% Barr

2. Indiana ended up going Democratic, with the following stats
49.9 % - 1,352,356 votes for Obama
49.0% - 1,329,370 votes for McCain
1.1% - 28,980 votes for Barr

3. Bob Barr did his best showing of any state in Indiana with 1.1% of the votes.

4. In Missouri, they passed an admendment to make English the official language in their state...I thought that was a funny one!

5. They voted to ban same sex marriage in California again! Florida and Arizona voted to yes to define marriage between one man and one women! S. Dakota voted yes to ban abortion in their state!

Who I voted for!

Well finally the day is here! Election Tuesday. One last push by all the candidates and hopefully one last day of 24 hour election coverage on all the news channels. It is like there is no other new out there than the election. Although, this will be a monumentous night cause we will either have our first black president or our first women VP.

So, I am sure you maybe wondering who I ended up voting for in this election, since I did at one point voice that I just might vote for Obama, but soon realized how socialistic his ideas were.

Then I thought about McCain, but I just don't trust him either as I had mentioned in other posts. He says he is a maverick, but his actions counteract what he says!

So I ended up voting for the Libertarian Bob Barr. I had been researching him for awhile after getting involved with Ron Paul's grassroots campaign, but didn't know if he would be on the Indiana ticket or not. If he wasn't going to be then I would of voted for McCain.

So, you say...who's Bob Barr and Wayne Root (VP). They are the only candidates who actually have talked about cutting back spending in gov't and scaling back the government's influence in our daily lives. And that was one of the main issues I had with this election!

"The government cannot continue spending at this rate if America is to remain competitive in the global marketplace. The new administration’s number one job will be to drastically reduce spending … " - Bob Barr 2008 (http://www.bobbarr2008.com/)

The Old Hook & Ladder Play! Go Boilers!

Well small miracles do happen every once in awhile, especially when you have two losing teams playing each other!

Purdue BEAT Michigan ---> 48 - 42 in a wild one in Ross-Aide Stadium! Man, I wish we had the Big Ten Network on the TV's at work, cause from the highlights it was an awesome game!

Here are some of the amazing stories from the game:

1. Purdue's 3rd-string QB (Justin Siller ) finished 21-of-34 for 266 yards passing with 3 TD passes and a running TD!

2. Michigan scored 14 points to start the game with only running 1 play from the line of scrimmage (a running TD and a punt return for a TD).

3. Purdue came back from being down 14 points TWICE!

4. Purdue ended their 5 game losing streak and Michigan lost it's 5th in a row!

5. Michigan’s first losing season since 1967 ended any possibility the Wolverines had to extend their streak of 33 straight bowl appearances

6. It also was the most points by Purdue and the most combined points in the 54-game series with Michigan

7. With 26 seconds left, Orton lateraled to Desmond Tardy for the old hook and ladder play for the game winning TD!

Wow, so what a game! If you want to watch any of the highlights...check out this following 3-4 minute clip from the Big Ten Network! There is a short 15 sec commercial first (bummer).
