Day 17. California Joe & I surfaced to civilization today at Newfound Gap. It is full of tourists here, and we even got our picture taken by a very astonished couple from Chicago. They could believe we have been hiking for 17 days straight.
Today we summitted Clingmans Dome. The highest point on the AT at 6643 ft. It was a great day to view!
Also at lunch we crossed the 200 mile mark on the trail! We are staying at Ice Water Spring shelter tonight, which is 207.6 miles from Springer.
We have about 2 more days of the Smokies, and are on schedule to get to Hot Springs on Tuesday. God Bless. Hope the Passion Play is going well. To God be the glory.
Shepherd.

WAY TO GO SHEPHERD!!!
Man you are tearing it up... LOT'S of folks are relieved to hear from you. Glad you are enjoying the Smokys. The attitude usually is to just get through them. But it is so beautiful.
There's a nice hostel a little ways past Davenport Gap called Standing Bear. Nice folks...
Thanks for the peppermint oil update! I really appreciate it. Let me know when you need a refill and I'll send it on ahead to you. Just e-mail me.
We are all proud of you my brother!
Hike on,
PS

Glad your okay and having fun, amee is counting down the days till hot springs. We miss you and will keep checking your posts.

Mom and Dad
Here is the vid where I promote your blog a bit.

I don't want to do a bunch of commercial like promotions so I called you a friend to avoid all the solicitation emails. I hope that is ok.
Hi from mom,
Just checking I know you are back in the smokies so probably no updates till hotsprings. But since I talked to you on the telephone yesterday and know you are fine and having fun I'm not worrying. Glad your under 2000, enjoy your day zero with amee, will be hard to let her come home.
Love you,
Mom
Happy Easter from mom,
I hope the weather is nice, looks like it was yesterday since cal joe had on shorts. I think from the weather report link scott gave it was to be colder today or tommorrow, can't remember for sure. Watched russell's you tube last night and he talked about you in the end and gave your blog so more people could follow you. Well back to work tonight so I won't be able to check your blog as many times a day as I do, but I will still check. Have a happy easter hiking, my prayers are still with you and amee will be on her way in 2 days- know you can't wait.
Love you, Mom
