Today’s Photo

The story behind this photo ...

Today the guy who shared the shelter with us woke up at 4:30 am and started packing up. He was sooooo loud thankfully he got quiet around 5:30 and I was able to sleep a bit more till 6:15. We got on the trail around 7 am. Amee met us on the way to her and we got to hike a bit with Froning and her. It was nice.

So apparently CT doesn’t know exactly where you are official in CT because there were three CT signs. The one above, we think is the official one. Here are the other two.

The first 6 miles were really easy and pleasant. Temps in the 60’s. We hiked along a couple rivers that had amazing rapids. We saw an Egret in the water. Unfortunately no bears. I did catch a toad to show Lucas.

After 6 miles we stopped at an over look for lunch. The boys had PB&J sandwiches, Oreos and an orange. I had a spam sandwich and some PB wraps and mixed nuts. Delicious.

The second half of the day was much tougher. The climbs were steeper and the descents more slippery. It was off and on sprinkling which felt nice.

The mountain laurel are almost in full bloom in some areas. They are one of my favorites. The Japanese Primrose is also in bloom. I don’t think I had ever seen this flower before.

We are staying the night at Mt. Algo shelter. It is pretty nice and clean. Unfortunately no ground fires in CT so no hiker TV for the next few nights.

Well time for dinner. Beef Stroganoff with extra salmon for the boys! And then will do some word search puzzles and I got a book from the last shelter to read. 17+ miles tomorrow.

Good night!
