Kentucky Derby Half Marathon

This is myself with my wife, Amee, and two friends from church...Jason and Markus... before our run at the 2009 Kentucky Derby half and full marathon.

Amee, Jason & I ran the half marathon (13.1 miles), but Markus upstaged us all and ran the full 26.2 mile marathon! Both Markus and Jason set personal records this weekend. We had a really great time and even got to run around the inside of the Kentucky Derby track!

Here are the results!
Jeremiah: 1:52:31(8:36 pace)
Amee: 2:09:19 (9:53 pace)
Jason: 2:16:47 (10:27 pace)
Markus: 4:26:29 (10:11 pace)

Now this saturday will be the Indi-Mini for Jason and I, which is the largest half marathon in the nation with over 35,000 runners. We also get to run a lap around the Indy 500 track! Very cool!

Beware: Christians will be persecuted!

Even though this is mainly a frugal/coupon blog, I still enjoy putting up posts of current news and stuff I feel really matters. I am a born-again Christian, and believe that marriage should be between a man and a women. This story made me sick to my stomach when I saw it on Fox and Friends this morning, but also felt encouraged that there still are people that are willing to stand up for what they believe despite the consequences!

The attacks on the current Miss California are just another example of the persecution that Christians should be preparing to face in the not so distant future. Carrie Prejean, Miss 2009 California, pretty much lost any chance to win the Miss USA crown last sunday when she gave her own opinion on the sanctity of marriage. She stood up in her beliefs that marriage should be between a man and a women. She shouldn't be judged or persecuted just because that is what she believes, and shouldn't be negatively put down because her opinion isn't politically correct!

It is simply awful the vile stuff Perez Hilton has called this woman (the "b" and "c" word) since that interview, and the media fall out since. I personally applaud her courage to stand up for her belief in God and marriage. I pray that more and more Christians will continue to stand up for what they believe in as well, even though it may cost us much in the future...including persecution. They are even talking that she may loose her Miss California Crown because of this. Unreal.

We need to start teaching our kids how to handle persecution when standing up for biblical principles, and implanting a sense of character now while they are young cause it will only get worse. This is the type of role model our kids should be looking up to! Way to go Carrie!

Praying for Carrie

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Ron Paul's Thoughts on a Texas Secession!

In case you missed the Texas' govenor mention the possiblity of a Texas secession on the Glenn Beck program during the anti-tax tea parties, here is Ron Paul's thoughts on the whole idea of state secession. It is very interesting that our gov't has encouraged other countries to seceed from the Soviet Union (like Georgia), but say's it is un-American for us to even consider the possibility! This is a very short 4 min video. Remember...knowledge is key! Never stop learning!

I unfortunetly can't post the video directly on my blog for some odd reason. So, just click on this link to see Ron Paul's thoughts on the principles of state secession!

Enjoy, Shepherd.

FREE Gillette Fusion Razor

Gillette is giving away FREE Fusion Razors everyday till May 16th to the 1st 500 people who register daily on their site. Today's quota has already been filled but check back daily to see if you can get one!

Just saved $45,000! Woo-hoo!

Well if you haven't taken advantage of the historically low interest rates for morgages, I highly recommend going to your bank to look at refinancing! I went yesterday and realized that if we refinanced our current 30 yr morgage at 5.87% down to a 15 year morgage at 4.5%...we would save $45,000 in interest payments! It did cost just under $1,000 to do the refinancing, but it was well worth the investment!

Plus, we would only be paying $75 more dollars a month over what we are currently paying on our morgage! Our extreme goal is to get the morgage payed off in 3-4 years, which will save us even more in interest payments! Right now though we are doing our part for the economy and putting on a screened-in back porch before inflation hits in a couple of years.

To God be the glory!

Here is another picture of part of the crowd that braved cold, windy conditions to support our right to life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness. Dont forget to watch Glenn Beck tonight at 5 pm EST as well. He will be broadcasting live from the Alamo at another Tea Party.

Anyone else go to a Tea Party....put down a comment on how it went! I would love to hear about it!

Standing up for Freedom,

Lafayette Tea Party.jpg

Lafayette Tea Party.jpg, originally uploaded by Hikingfool.

Here is another picture of the Lafayette Tea party. If you didnt make it to the noon party, we are having another one at 6 pm on the pedistrian bridge. See ya there.

Lafayette Tea Chest.jpg

Lafayette Tea Chest.jpg, originally uploaded by Hikingfool.

Here at the Lafayette Anti-Tax Tea Party. We have a strong showing of about 300 ish people. This is the chest of tea that will be thrown into the Walbash by the guy leading this protest...he will be fined $180 for adding organic matter to the Walbash. unreal.

Anti-Tax Tea Parties Today

Well today is Tax day, and I hope everyone has gotten their taxes done this year. Also, many grass-roots organizations are organizing Tea Party Protests today all over the country to voice the growing frustration of over spending of this administration, which will lead to higher taxes for all!

In "honor" of April 15th, allow me to share with you excerpts from an article on taxes written by Ron Paul. It's called The Case Against the Income Tax.

Could America exist without an income tax? The idea seems radical, yet in truth America did just fine without a federal income tax for the first 126 years of its history. Prior to 1913, the government operated with revenues raised through tariffs, excise taxes, and property taxes, without ever touching a worker's paycheck....

The harmful effects of the income tax are obvious. First and foremost, it has enabled government to expand far beyond its proper constitutional limits, regulating virtually every aspect of our lives. It has given government a claim on our lives and work, destroying our privacy in the process. It takes billions of dollars out of the legitimate private economy, with most Americans giving more than a third of everything they make to the federal government. This economic drain destroys jobs and penalizes productive behavior. The ridiculous complexity of the tax laws makes compliance a nightmare for both individuals and businesses....

Is it impossible to end the income tax? I don't believe so. In fact, I believe a serious groundswell movement of disaffected taxpayers is growing in this country. Millions of Americans are fed up with the current tax system, and they will bring pressure on Congress....

Here is a link to find out if your city has a Tea Party going on in your neighborhood.

For anyone in Lafayette...the party is from noon - 2 pm at the Pedistrian bridge downtown.
For anyone in Indy...the party is on the Indiana Statehouse from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.

Finally here is a quick 7 min video from Glenn Beck talking about the Tea Parties and the Media.
