Third Grade Civic Lesson - Happy Halloween!

This is a post that Don Rasmussen posted on Campaign for Liberty website that really hits the nail on the head about Obama. Enjoy.

3rd Grade Civics Lesson
Posted by Don Rasmussen on 10/30/08Last updated 10/30/08

Special thanks to my mom for sending this along.

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade. The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president. We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote.

To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.
The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia’s mother. The day arrived when they were to make their speeches. Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Every one applauded. He sat down and Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise. She said, “If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream.” She sat down. The class went wild. “Yes! Yes! We want ice cream.”

She surely would say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn’t sure. Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it. She didn’t know. The class really didn’t care. All they were thinking about was ice cream. Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a land slide.

Every time Barack Obama opens his mouth he offers ice cream, and fifty percent of America reacts like nine year olds. They want ice cream. The other fifty percent know they’re going to have to feed the cow.

Scary enough for you this Halloween!

Say it ain't so Joaquin!

Well I was going to my favorite search engine...www.yahoo.com, when I came to this unexpected news headline:

Joaquin Phoenix Shocks With Retirement Announcement.

Yes, that is right. Joaquin Pheonix is retiring from movies at the ripe old age of 34! I guess when he learned to play the guitar while doing "Walk the Line", he fell in love with music and plans on getting into the recording industry! Joaquin and Reese did actually sing all of their songs in "Walk the Line", which I thought was pretty impressive cause they sounded great! But I guess that is why they are such great actors! BTW...Reese is my favorite actress, I sure hope she doesn't retire as well!

Phoenix said that "Two Lovers," his upcoming romantic drama with Gwyneth Paltrow and Vinessa Shaw, will be his final on-screen role.

I am bummed, because I think Joaquin is such a great actor! I loved him in "Walk the Line", "Gladiator", and "Signs". Well I hope that someday he will get bored with music and un-retire from the film industry!

Please post some of your favorite movies with Joaquin Pheonix, and while you are pondering them...enjoy this excerpt from "Walk the Line!"

Public Chess Enemy # 1 & # 2

Well if you don't know, I am a big chess fan. I really enjoy the battles that can go on between 2 people each time they sit down and play a game of chess. I also love that face that no two games are ever alike! I would say that I am an average chess player, definitly no Bobby Fischer or Josh Waitzken, but I can hold my own for the most part...except for two people in my church's sunday
school class! Which are:

Public Chess Enemy # 1 - Lee Morrison
(aka...The Big Guy!)

It seems that NO matter what I do or how much I study, I cannot seem to beat him. I still have yet to beat him since I have known him, but I think I made him sweat a tad on the second to last game I played with him! Victory was soooo close, but so far away!

My record is 0 - ? (the number is to great to count!) against Lee!

Public Chess Enemy # 2 - Matt Boehm

Matt is tough, but isn't quite up the level of Lee, but I don't think they have ever played each other! It is just the fact that I have actually beaten Matt that he is in the #2 slot!

My record is 1 - 5 against Matt!

So I am seeking to up my training in order not to be a punching bag against these two heavy-weights that I am friends with! So watch out Lee and Matt, cause here comes the Shepherd Express...and it is leaving the station! lol.

I will let you know when I finally break this losing streak! Also, if anyone is a fellow chess player, I love to play chess on facebook...Chess Pro (just let me know) or I am also on chess.com under the name: ATShepherd!

Delighting in the black and white jungle of chess!

Harrison Sectionals 08.jpg

Harrison Sectionals 08.jpg, originally uploaded by Hikingfool.

Well folks,

It is sectional time here in Indiana. We are here to root on Coach Flowers and the Raiders. We have 13 people from Faith Baptist, which makes up about 15 % of the fan base. It is very weird to see how empty the stands are for a sectional game. Maybe the threat of rain kept them in their homes. Also this is Greg Bosma's first ever high school football game of his life!

But with 3 mins to game time it is perfect football weather. Go Raiders!

Update: Harrison clobbered the Maverics 42 - 14 to advance the Sectional final against Kokomo next weekend! Way to go Coach Flowers and the Raiders!

The Real Cost to Taxpayers!

It is amazing at how our government can keep on spending and spending without the approval of the American people, who supply the money for these bailouts! Here is the new and updated grand total of what this financial mess has cost us....over 2.5 trillion dollars! It is pretty amazing to actually see it in black and white...and to think that all this happened in less than a month!

Bailout Type - Cost to Taxpayers
1. Pelosi's latest economic-stimulus package - $300 billion
2. Paulson's Bank Nationalization package - $250 billion
3. Bailout to the American car companies - $25 billion
4. Pelosi's bailout of the state & local governments - $150 billion
5. Financial "bailout" bill - $700 billion +
6. Bear Stearns financing - $29 billion
7. Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac nationalization - $200 billion
8. Mortage community grants - $4 billion
9. JP Morgan Chase repayments - $87 billion
10. Loans to banks via Fed's Term Auction Facility - $200 billion
11. Loans from Depression era Exchange Stabil. Fund - $50 billion
12. Purchases of mortgage securities by Fan/Fred - $144 billion

Possible Total $2.56 trillion +
Possible cost per household $24,269

Also the US govt has said it will temporarily guarantee $1.5 trillion in new senior debt issued by banks, as well as insure $500 billion in deposits in non-interest accounts...mainly used by businesses.

These added figures take the potential costs to $4.559 trillion + or $43,221 per household.

We need to as Americans demand fiscial responsibility by our men and women in Washington, or they will destroy the American dollar through inflation (or creation of new money). This hurts the middle-class the most, as most people know. Continue to educate yourselves to the unconstitutional spending and monetary policies that are going on in our govt! God bless us.

Glenn Beck: What can I do to Prepare?

Here is the final article in Glenn Beck's series on this financial mess, and he talks about things to do to prepare for the upcoming hard times with the economy. Hope you enjoy, and really think about a plan game now before things get worse. Also you might want to make friends with Chris Griese (Mr. NRA)...in case you need protection, but I hope it doesn't come to that! lol.

Mock Code Blue.jpg

Mock Code Blue.jpg, originally uploaded by Hikingfool.

Well today was the day to open at our brand new hospital, but we had to delay for one day due to not everything being delivered. I guess it is better to be safe and postpone opening and get all equipment in rather than opening and not being able to treat patients safely. It is a massive undertaking to start a new hospital on time, but when we do open up it will be amazing.

So today we have been practicing mock codes in one of our rooms. Dr. Kelly was our "dummy" patient, and Dr. Rosenburg ran it. They are our new critical care intensivists. It went as well as expected, but it is so hard to get a feel of a true code when we are only practicing, especially since we don't really know everyone and their strenghts. But it is something that is essential, since we are the ones responding hospital wide to codes.

It is going to be a wild next few weeks here in the ICU!

Glenn Beck: What's Next?

Well Glenn Beck came out with his part 2 of a 3 part series on this whole financial crisis. This one is a sobering look at what could be next down the road for our country. The final one will be more upbeat as it will look at what we can do to prepare. It is very good, and I definetly recommend anyone to take a few minutes to check it out.

http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/16278/

Also, here are a few things that never happened before in our country until yesterday.

1. The FED is looking at becoming a bank and directly lending money to failing corporations. This is very scary cause why do we need banks anymore. We can just get the money form the source that has a never ending pocket book...the FED can just print more money anytime they want! Experts are still unsure how this really will affect us in the long run, but they are not optimistic.

2. The global banks came together yesterday to enact a global rate cut among numerous world banks, which was the first time ever in history. This will probably continue because it did little to rally the markets, so expect more global rate cuts in the future. This is getting more and more like a "one global economy" that the end times warned about. Very interesting.

p.s. There maybe a rumor and possiblity of a VIP coming to the community center near the end of the month for the opening of the Hoosier Heartland Project.....someone who is keenly aware of the "Joe Six-Pack's and Hockey Mom's" out there! Hope it's true! I am feeling a bit Mavericky! ;o)

Obama & McCain: Clueless

Well after the 2nd debate tonight, it confirms to me that neither candidate knows how to fix the economy. I believe if either one of them becomes president, they will cause more harm than good. The economy will continue to worsen if the government continue the course they have been doing since the early 90's. Spend, Spend, Spend....Print more money! I have no idea who I will vote for.

It seems Obama wants to increase government oversite, which means that we will become more and more of a socialized nation. Our freedoms will continue to vanish for the good of all people...so they say. Plus Obama said nothing about cutting back spending at all!

For McCain, he claims he wants to reform Washington and curb the unnecessary spending out there, which we need, which is maybe why I will end up voting for him. But I don't know if I believe him because of his voting record. He continues to complain about the ear marks and special interest spending that is out of control...but last week he voted for ear marks and more spending by the gov't. If he would of voted no to the bailout package...I definetly would of voted for him. The other thing about his voting record is that he voted 90% with the spending sprees of Pres. Bush, which agains confirms that he may say one thing but does the other. Plus does anyone else notice that he seems really stiff up there on stage? He moves his arms like a robot...lol. Plus if McCain & Palin gets in... Tina Fey will have 4 years of great info to do her SNL skits!

Also, another insain thing happened yesterday as well. The Fed is toying with another interest rate cut, which is simply crazy! Doing this encourages spending more and saving less! Plus it increases inflation by adding more printed bills into the economy.

The gov't continues to say we need to spend more and more to get the markets going again...but how much debt is to much!! Do the average American REALLY need another car? Aren't we in to much debt already!? Is buying a home really an entitlement or should it be something you work hard for and save 20-30% for a downpayment? Six months ago the banks are still giving out home loans with only 3% down...that is simply amazing and irresponsible!

In closing, we are in for a long and painful correction in our economy...especially since the government keeps getting involved. Prepare for the hard times...create a budget and live by it. Don't spend anymore than you absolutely need to. Be the best worker you can at work. Don't take on any more debt (that is if you can even get any). Create an emergency fund. Continue to pray. Seek opportunities to share Christ to unbelievers that are really hurting..cause the only true hope and peace comes from Christ!

Glenn Beck: What Happened?

For all you out there that do not watch Glenn Beck, you should. He is very good at bringing down very complicated issues to the level of most normal Americans and making it understandable. He is very down to earth, and practical. He will tell you how it is and hopefully what you can do about it! He is on Mon-Friday on Headline News at 7pm and 9pm. Check him out!

Well, here again is a very good summary on how we got in this financial mess. He goes back to the beginning and really lays it all out. He plans on putting out there 2 more posts...what's next and how do we prepare for the tough time ahead. So stay tuned.

Pork Barrel Bailout! So Un-American!

Well, it is simply amazing. I am utterly frustrated and outraged at the actions of our men and women in Congress.

The people in Congress and Wall St. keep telling us that if we don't pass this EMERGENCY bailout.... the whole country will fall apart. If it is so important, why do they think they have to buy off politicians in order for it to pass. Shouldn't this be illegal! Are we saying bribery is right? This is soooo wrong!

Where is the integrity in Congress? Last week the Congressmen were saying that the cause of this financial mess was because of the GREED of Wall St? Isn't this bill "fattened" with the GREED of Washington? Sigh....

Well here is their arguement: Well ok, maybe these politicians said "no" last week, but I bet if we put in some "sweeteners" in the bill...we can get them to change their vote to "yes". This is unbelievable! This bill is up to 850 billion with the 150 billion in extra earmarks now! In the year of 2008...if they pass this bill tomorrow, they will have allotted about 1.9 TRILLION to help bailout the economy (when you include Fannie, Freddy, AIG and Bearstearn)!!! I can hardly fathom...2 trillion dollars!

I hope and pray that these politicians who stood up for liberty and the common American person and voted "NO" to the first unconstitutional bill that failed, will resist the pressure to cave in and pass this even more unconstitutional bill! Keep up the phone lines and emails to these congressmen and women. Tell them to continue to stand up for your beliefs. Vote NO! See my previous post and you will find a link to the congressmen and women from IN...and how they voted on the last bill.

Here are some of the "Pork" that is included:
1. Section 503 gives tax breaks for the manufacturer of wooden arrows used in toys for children. Price tag, $6 million.
2. Puerto Rican and Virgin Island rum producers get $192 MILLION!
3. Section 502, qualified television and film productions given an extension of favorable expensing rules, $10 million.

This is just to name a few. What is this country coming to? We as American voters can still have an influence, because everyone thought that this bill would of passed last monday...but because of the huge volumes of calls in opposition to it...caused the men and women in Congress to vote it down! This is how government is suppose to work...We the people!

Oh, one last point:

Talk about integrity. Didn't we hear Senator McCain's during the debate....push that he is going to REFORM Washington and veto every "earmark" that comes across his desk as president. He hammered Obama for taking over 93 million in "earmarks" in the past 2 years. But McCain voted "Yes" to this bill filled full of "earmarks". Hmmmm....saying one thing but doing another! Not a way to build trust! I still don't know who I will vote for in November, but is this the kind of morals we are looking for in a president? Man...Ron Paul for President 2012!

Anyone else out there frustrated with all this?
Shepherd.

Ron Paul's: Campain for Liberty

I found this site today after watching Ron Paul on CNN this morning before heading to computer class at Clarian Arnett!

Site: http://www.campaignforliberty.com/ or http://70.32.73.101/#.

Here is it's mission statement:

The mission of the Campaign for Liberty is to promote and defend the great American principles of individual liberty, constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a noninterventionist foreign policy, by means of educational and political activity.

It evens shows how your congressman from each state has voted for the bailout. Very cool. Also it gives contact info for our congressmen and women.

http://70.32.73.101/usa/IN/#.

I encourage everyone to check it out and sign up to get their newsletter, and get involved! We need to fight to reclaim what our founding father's had envisioned for this country!

The main push for today is to have as many people call their US Senators and tell them to vote "NO" for the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, including some key US senators. They give their phone numbers on this webpage.

Here are our US Senators for Indiana and contact info. Send an email or phone today!
